Psychology at Southport Metro Medical Centre
Our in-house psychologist Steven Kose is a Consultant Psychologist with experience across correctional services, cross-cultural counselling, employment services, and clinical mental health. He works with children aged 9 and over, adolescents, adults and couples.
Steven is available on Fridays at Southport Metro Medical Centre. To access Medicare rebates, you will need a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan from your doctor. Our GPs can prepare this for you, and with a valid plan you can receive Medicare rebates on up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year.

Treatment approaches
Steven uses a range of evidence-based treatment methods tailored to each client, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Couples Counselling. He also provides drug and alcohol counselling and vocational counselling.
Fees and Medicare rebates
To access Medicare rebates for psychology, you need a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). Our GPs at Southport Metro can prepare this for you in a standard appointment. With a valid plan, Medicare will rebate a portion of each session.
Psychology Fees
Psychology consultation (1 hour): $185 (Medicare rebate $90.65 with a valid MHTP). ADHD Assessment: $1,450 including clinical interview, assessments and full report.
How to get started
The simplest way to access psychology at Southport Metro is to book a GP appointment first. Your GP will talk through what you are experiencing, prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan (which makes you eligible for Medicare rebates), and refer you to Steven directly. Because we are all in the same clinic, the process is straightforward and you can often get your plan and first psychology booking sorted within a couple of weeks.
If you already have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from another GP, you can bring that in and book directly with Steven.
