Southport Metro Medical Centre is a Bupa preferred provider on the Gold Coast. If you have Bupa health insurance, including Bupa OSHC for international students, you can use your cover at our clinic and benefit from reduced gap fees on GP consultations.
Being a Bupa preferred provider means we have an agreement with Bupa that reduces the amount you pay out of pocket compared to seeing a non-preferred GP. You still pay a gap fee, but it is lower than it would be elsewhere.
To use your Bupa cover at our clinic, just bring your Bupa membership card or OSHC card to your appointment. We process your claim on the spot at reception, so there is no need to claim separately through Bupa afterwards.
Fees for Bupa Members
Each of our doctors is an independent practitioner who sets their own fees, so what you pay depends on which GP you see and the type of appointment. Medicare rebates apply for Bupa members exactly as they do for all patients, and Bupa’s preferred provider benefit then reduces your remaining gap.

Bupa OSHC — International Students
If you are an international student in Australia with Bupa Overseas Student Health Cover, you can use your cover at our clinic. Bupa OSHC covers GP visits, and as a preferred provider we can process your claim on the spot.
- Bring your Bupa OSHC card to every appointment
- Bring your student ID or passport as photo identification
- Arrive a few minutes early to complete any paperwork if you are a new patient
- If you are in your first 12 months of cover and being referred for tests or further treatment, ask your GP to complete a Bupa medical certificate

Do Bupa members get a different Medicare rebate?
No. Medicare rebates are the same for everyone and are set by the Australian Government. As a Bupa member you receive the standard Medicare rebate for your consultation, then Bupa’s preferred provider benefit reduces what is left of your gap.
Can I claim my Bupa benefit on the spot?
Yes. We have HICAPS and Medicare terminals at reception. Bring your Bupa card and we process your Medicare and Bupa benefits at the time of payment, so you only pay the remaining gap. Most major health funds are supported via HICAPS, although Allianz is excluded from HICAPS processing.
Does Bupa cover allied health at your clinic?
Bupa extras cover can apply to physiotherapy and dietitian services at our clinic depending on your level of cover. Psychology sessions via a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan are covered by Medicare, not Bupa extras. Bring your Bupa card and we can process extras claims on the spot via HICAPS.
I’m an international student. What do I need to bring?
Bring your Bupa OSHC card and photo ID such as your student card, passport or driver’s licence. Arrive a few minutes before your appointment to complete any initial paperwork if you are a new patient.
