What We Commonly See in Kids

  • Sick Day Visits — Colds, Fevers, Ear Infections, Gastro Kids get sick and sometimes you just need to know if it’s serious or not. Our GPs will properly assess your child, give you a clear picture of what’s going on, and advise on the right treatment. We’re open 7 days so you don’t need to wait until Monday — or end up in the emergency department — for something a GP can handle.
  • Vaccinations Keeping up with the National Immunisation Program schedule is one of the most important things you can do for your child’s health and the health of the community. We administer all routine childhood vaccinations and can check your child’s vaccination history if you’re not sure where things are up to. See the vaccination schedule below for a general guide.
  • Growth and Development Checks Regular check-ups allow your GP to track your child’s growth, development, and milestones over time. If something seems off — whether it’s speech, motor development, behaviour, or weight — catching it early gives the best outcomes. These checks are also a good opportunity to ask questions you might not raise at a sick visit.
  • ADHD in Children ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions in children, affecting around 1 in 14 kids in Australia. If you’re concerned about your child’s attention, behaviour at school, impulsivity, or ability to focus, it’s worth raising with your GP.   • Asthma and Respiratory Conditions Asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions in Australian children. Our GPs can diagnose and manage asthma, review and update asthma action plans, check inhaler technique, and discuss trigger management. If your child has been diagnosed elsewhere and you need a GP to continue care, we’re happy to take that on.
  • Eczema and Skin Conditions Childhood eczema can be frustrating to manage — it flares up, gets infected, and affects sleep. Our GPs can help with treatment plans, prescription creams, and practical advice on managing triggers. We also have a skin clinic for more complex skin concerns.
  • Children’s Mental Health and Anxiety Anxiety, depression, and school refusal are increasingly common in children and teenagers, particularly post-COVID. These are real medical concerns and not something to dismiss or wait out. Your GP can assess what’s going on, prepare a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, and refer to our onsite psychologist Steven Kose if appropriate. Medicare rebates are available for eligible children.
  • School and Childcare Certificates Need a medical certificate for school or childcare? Your GP can provide these at the same appointment as a consultation. We can also complete forms for school health requirements, sporting clearances, and medication management plans for schools.
  • Adolescent Health Teenagers have their own set of health needs that aren’t always easy to raise at home. Our GPs see adolescents for mental health, contraception, sexual health, skin conditions, sports injuries, and general check-ups. Consultations with teenagers are confidential — we explain this to both the young person and their parents at the start of the appointment.

Annual flu vaccines are recommended for all children aged 6 months and over. We offer free flu vaccines for eligible children, including the FluMist nasal spray for children aged 2–17 who don’t like needles. Call ahead to confirm availability.

Bringing Your Child to Us for the First Time

We welcome new patients of all ages. If you’re bringing a child in for the first time, it helps to have the following with you:

  • Medicare card
  • Immunisation history (if available)
  • Any existing medications
  • Previous medical records (if relevant)
  • Your child’s Health and Development Record (blue book)

If you don’t have some of these, don’t let it stop you from coming in. We can look up Medicare records and vaccination history through our system.

My child is sick — how quickly can I get an appointment?

We do our best to accommodate same-day appointments for sick children. Call reception as early as possible on (07) 5612 7830 and let them know your child is unwell — we’ll fit them in as soon as we can. We’re open 7 days including weekends.

My child has been diagnosed with ADHD elsewhere — can you manage their ongoing care?

Yes. If your child already has an ADHD diagnosis and is on medication, we can take over ongoing management and prescriptions. Bring any previous reports or letters from the diagnosing specialist to the first appointment.

Can I stay with my child during the appointment?

Yes, absolutely. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay for all children’s appointments. For teenagers, we may suggest part of the appointment be with just the young person — this is standard practice and we’ll explain the approach before doing so.

Do you do school entry health checks?

Yes. School entry checks typically happen around age 4–5 and cover vision, hearing, development, and vaccinations. Book a standard appointment and let reception know it’s for a school entry check so we can allow enough time.

My child is anxious about going to the doctor. Any advice?

Our GPs are used to nervous kids. It helps to keep the language positive before the visit — avoid phrases like “it won’t hurt” or “don’t be scared” which can have the opposite effect. Let us know when you arrive that your child is anxious and we’ll take extra care to go at their pace.
